Focus Thieves
Today I would have spent pretty much the whole day fighting fires, which I guess would have been expected after having to reschedule all of yesterday’s activities. But by using a few tricks, I was still able to get everything accomplished that I needed to today. I have found is that there are two ways to deal with ‘Focus Thieves’. Focus thieves are time interruptions that take your focus away from the big tasks that have to be accomplished. They are barely noticeable but their impact can be staggering.
- Do nothing and let them control your day
- Or use time blocking and include special blocks of time specifically to handle and get rid of the ‘Time Thieves’
Today I used option two and the results were remarkable. Knowing that today was then be tough, and made sure that the first thing I did was get in my exercises. With the exercising done, and the increase in metabolism and focus I turned off my phones and headed into my first PowerHour. I stayed with my two scheduled PowerHours, one this morning and the other one this afternoon. But I also allocated time to handle the many little distractions that I would encounter throughout the day. And took care of them all in one block of time.
The end results were very different than if I had chosen option one. By being able to maintain focus I was able to complete all my top priorities and still handle the little problems and distractions throughout the day.
Do you spend your day fighting ‘Focus Thieves’ and losing, or do you have a strategy to combat the many interruptions throughout the day and be productive? I’d love to hear the strategies you use to fend off your ‘Focus Thieves’.
Have a great weekend,

Hey Harry.
I just want to thank you for the excellent post.
trying to stay focused during the day on what I need to do in my marketing daily goals is very hard somedays. I love the whole Focus theives thing. Now I know it isnt my fault ha ha. Someoen is actually coming in and stealing my focus away. Going to have to set up an alarm system.
KEEP FOCUSED!! Bt we need to just stay focused on one or two things at a time. I think sometimes we try to focus on so many things that we lose focus on everything.
