What business are you in?

By Harry Fink on November 18th, 2007

I can ask everyone that question and I would imagine I would get a different answer from every one.  Yet the answer should and is the same for everyone.  While everyone may sell many different things everyone is in the lead generation business.  If you don’t have any leads then you don’t have a business you just have a lot of products with no potential customers to sell them to.

In order to continue to grow your “List” and business you must have a well defined process to move every person that enters it from an unknown person that never heard of you to a person knows likes and trusts.

Here is the progression of a lead from the point of them finding you until they become a life customer:

  1. Not yet met – everyone on the web you do not know and they don’t know you.
  2. Lead – someone that visits your site but had not opted-in.
  3. Prospect – someone that has opted into your list.
  4. Active prospect – someone that actively participates and visits your site and also reads your emails but has not purchased from you yet.
  5. Customer – A person that purchases their first item from you.
  6. Lifetime Customer – A repeat customer that knows likes and trusts you.

So in order to develop your leads you have to have a process that has a step-by-step plan on how you will advance a person through each level of the lead development chain.

In closing, remember you are in the lead generation business, and a well defined customer development plan is the key to success.  But without this plan your items could be the best widget in the world but it does no good just sitting in your storage facility.

To Your Success,
Harry

Focus Thieves

By Harry Fink on November 16th, 2007

Today I would have spent pretty much the whole day fighting fires, which I guess would have been expected after having to reschedule all of yesterday’s activities. But by using a few tricks, I was still able to get everything accomplished that I needed to today. I have found is that there are two ways to deal with ‘Focus Thieves’. Focus thieves are time interruptions that take your focus away from the big tasks that have to be accomplished. They are barely noticeable but their impact can be staggering.

  1. Do nothing and let them control your day
  2. Or use time blocking and include special blocks of time specifically to handle and get rid of the ‘Time Thieves’

Today I used option two and the results were remarkable. Knowing that today was then be tough, and made sure that the first thing I did was get in my exercises. With the exercising done, and the increase in metabolism and focus I turned off my phones and headed into my first PowerHour. I stayed with my two scheduled PowerHours, one this morning and the other one this afternoon. But I also allocated time to handle the many little distractions that I would encounter throughout the day. And took care of them all in one block of time.

The end results were very different than if I had chosen option one. By being able to maintain focus I was able to complete all my top priorities and still handle the little problems and distractions throughout the day.

Do you spend your day fighting ‘Focus Thieves’ and losing, or do you have a strategy to combat the many interruptions throughout the day and be productive? I’d love to hear the strategies you use to fend off your ‘Focus Thieves’.

Have a great weekend,

Harry

Put yourself in the way of success

By Harry Fink on November 15th, 2007

One of the things that often surprises me is how often people expect for success to come find them.  The first thing you need to realize is that success is out there, but it’s not there for just anyone.  It’s only out there for the people who are actively looking for and taking the necessary actions to find.  Success doesn’t have a roadmap to your house so don’t expect to come knocking on your door.

It’s quite the opposite, roadmaps to success are all over the place, they’re in libraries, bookstores success stories on the Internet and more than likely in many of the stories told by your parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles. All you have to do is keep your eyes and ears open, grab a map, and go look for directions on how to go find success.

My favorite phrase is… “I’m going to keep throwing myself in the way of success until it finally hits me like a Mack truck.”

So take a few minutes, and think about at least two ways that you can put yourself in the way of success tomorrow.  Success loves those who take action so just thinking about this is not enough.  Make sure to take action tomorrow and keep doing so every day to the point where success can’t help bump into you.

To your success,

Harry
